Dinner at Vrindavan

By Mohnish On March 2, 2009 1 Comment

With over 400 Veg Dishes, Vrindavan is one of the finest South Indian Restaurents I have dinned at till date. This must have been like the 50th time I’ve had dinner at Vrindavan! The food is tasty and the service is fast. I’m 100% sure, people living in Khar must have had dinner or lunch at Vrindavan atleast once in a lifetime! (I can actually have a bet over this!). Their speciality is South Indian, so if your going there for the first time, try one of their South Indian dishes. They have enough space for atleast 25 families to Dine in non AC and about 25 in the AC rooms. So yes, they have enough space to fit in upto 50 families! They got their basement renovated recently so I was eager to have Dinner there 😛 The waiting is aprox 5-20 mins if your going for Dinner on a Sunday. After waiting for about 10 minutes I had Butter Paneer Masala, Veg Chop and Naan/Roti.

Veg Chop at Vrindavan
Veg Chop
– Extremely de-li-cious! I love this dish! Made in red gravy, not spicy and very tasty! It tastes like dry Manchurian balls. This is one of my favs!
Price: Rs 90/plate – Serves 2
Taste: 5/5 – I love it!
Worth it? Yes!

Butter Paneer Masala – This dish is just like Butter Paneer but a bit light in color and tasty! Basically made just like Butter Paneer without the color with butter walking on your taste buds!
Price: Rs 100/plate – Serves 2
Taste: 4.5/5 – I liked it!
Worth it? Yep!

I like Vrindavan and have been visiting it since I was about 10 years old! I like everything about Vrindavan, specially the quality of food and the speed of service. The best time recommended would be anytime for Lunch or Dinner – Monday to Saturday. The place is good for small get-togethers and family dinning. The food is pure veg and their specialty is South Indian. Regardless of their speciality they serve very good North Indian/Punjabi and Chinese. They also serve a special Ginger Lime Juice which comes bottled and is served only at Vrindavan. The dinner for 4 came up to Rs 495.

Dinner at Swati Snacks

By Mohnish On February 22, 2009 No Comments

Swati Snacks is one of the best Gujju food restaurants I have seen till date. This was the third time I had Dinner at Swati Snacks. I had to wait for more than an hour for my turn to come, maybe because tomorrow is a holiday. The thing I noticed there is that the place was packed with 20 families dining in and 20 families waiting out for their turn, I was #21. After an hour of waiting I had some delicious Paani Puri, Paneer Lifafa and Gattu Nu Shak & Satpadi Rotli; which was extremely delicious!

Paani Puri at Swati Snacks Mumbai

Paani Puri – If your living in Mumbai and you have not had it till date, Mahn! Are you seriously living in Mumbai? The Paani Puri was extremely spicy and I had my nose leaking after the first one itself! I’ve had Paani Puri trice before at Swati but this one was extremely spicy!
Price: Rs 60/plate – 7 Puris
Taste: 4/5 – I’ll cut 1 for the extra spice.
Worth it? Little expensive, but worth it!

Paneer Lifafa at Swati Snacks
Paneer Lifafa – Extremely delicious! If you’re at Swati Snacks and a foodie like me, this one is recommended! Paneer, Onion and Green Chutney wraped in a roomali roti. I bet you can’t have just one! 😉
Price: Rs 80/plate – 4 pieces/plate
Taste: 5/5 – Full marks for the de-li-cious lifafa!
Worth it? Yes! If you have it once, you’re gonna order it again 😉

Gattu Nu Shak & Satpadi Rotli at Swati Snacks

Gattu Nu Shak & Satpadi Rotli – I couldn’t get my hands on this one, but I did have a bite. All I can say it was good! For Gujjus/Gujju Foodie people this dish is specially recommended.
Price:
Rs 120/plate
Taste: 4.5/5 – I liked it!
Worth it? A bit expensive but worth it!

I loved the place and I recommend each and everyone in Mumbai to visit it atleast once! If you visit it on a Sunday, you need to wait for atleast 30-75 mins for Dinner. The best time recommended would be from Monday to Saturday on Lunch at 12:30 PM or on 8 PM for Dinner. Extremely good place for family, friends and get-togethers. The best thing about this place was the open kitchen and fast service. Whatever you ordered was served in less than 7 mins regardless of the quantity or the crowd. The dinner for 5 came up to Rs 690 which is pretty affordable 😉
