Facebook Marketing
I have never blogged about Facebook Marketing before, however, after some research and reading, here is what I have for you. Facebook currently has over 350+ million users and over 70% are active on the popular social network. Facebook connects users from all over the world under one single domain, which is why it becomes a great platform for marketeers. I am sitting here in India, but I can still connect to users in the US or in Europe via Facebook.
How can Facebook help marketeers?
Facebook provides a great platform to market your product for free — Fan pages. A fan page is a page created by a user (usually the marketeer) to promote his product. The marketeer then uses this page to connect to more people all over the world and displays his product/services to interested users. Normal users like you and me become a fan of the product/service if we’re interested in it. But to make your page visible to normal users the marketeer has to use another Facebook platform known as — Facebook Advertising.
Why use Facebook Ads?
Facebook ads is a great way to reach your target audience. Your target audience might be college students, singles, men, people between the age of 25-35 etc. Facebook ads make it easier for you to get more customers/fans towards your services/products. Setting up an advertiser account with Facebook is easy, just sign up for a regular Facebook account and then visit their advertising page. Facebook’s advertising program converts way better than any other advertising program because it allows you to select the age, gender, occupation etc of the target audience.
What’s next?
Many marketeers try to gain more fans (by black hat/spam or legit advertising methods), but it always doesn’t guarantee you better results. A good marketeer would always try to keep users engaged by holding contests, asking questions or posting stuff which interests users (quotes, offers, images, videos, news etc). User interaction is always needed on a fan page or it won’t convert well. Having a large number of fans doesn’t guarantee sales or conversion. The best is to allow your fan page to grow on it’s own while you keep posting content on your fan page on regular basis.
Tip: Run your campaigns on international holidays, for example Christmas. Facebook was the most visited website on 25th December 2009. Conversion is higher on holidays (according to my research).

Nice post, facebook marketing is indeed a very important step to promote any business(online & offline). It converts better than any advertising program because of its large users. Refreshed old things with this post. Keep it up.

Facebook can work really well for marketing. It’s second in most traffic and there’s so many users who are active on the site everyday.

I’ve read whole blogs in the niche of facebook marketing. It sounds so easy and yet they don’t really help you get started and make it sound like it’s so much of a risk to do. Maybe you can offer further insite into facebook marketing. I’d really enjoy reading about it.

Hmmm, I didn’t know Facebook was so good for promoting. The sites I use seem to be frowned upon as spam, though I use them all the time and have had no worries. I will give Facebook more of a try though if you really think it will help. The only thing I’ve done with FB so far is bookmark some of pages/sites, didn’t really know what else I could do. Your post gets me started in the right direction, thanks 🙂

Facebook is a great way to promote products and services, I have a friend who is doing very, very, well with Facebook ads. It’s cheap and you can find highly targeted consumers.

Well I’ve been bookmarking Facebook for around 1 month now. I’m not really seeing any results from it though, but I know it’s something I’m doing wrong since it obviously works for others. I THINK I have my fan page up, I’m not even sure about that :\ I’m even more lost than when I joined myspace lol (luckily I’ve picked that up since then).

“great platform to market your product for free — Fan pages”
Aint that the truth. When asked about how to market a product, I always suggest people make a fan page and promote that like crazy because people will join because their friends joined

I think lots of people are missing the point. It’s not so much “Facebook has a lot of people” but instead that you can highly target your audience with their interests, language, location, age, etc.

There is no doubt there are tons of opportunities with the market imbalance within Facebook ads. This is the way to go.

Compared to others, like Adsense, is Facebook Advertising cheaper by much or what? Also would this be advisable for a new website with a limited budget? Google Adsense is a bit expensive to start with. Plus with the way you can choose to target your ads by age, gender, etc. that would be totally great IMO.

It is a bit amazing – as well as scary – how Facebook has gained a sort of “market control” through its popularity. I reckon that marketing on Facebook has its benefits, but I’d still be weary of using it too much for that specific reason. Thanks for posting!

Facebook marketing is actually quite effective for small cost businesses , though I’m not so sure how they are currently working for real estate ones.
This is a good research topic for any student in the academe.
Another thing that I would like to know is make money on using facebook alone. That would be cool.

Thanks for posting about this. With most businesses on facebook that I’ve seen and “became a fan of” they never do anything with their pages other than post the same ad over and over. Your final paragraph is what most are missing. It helps show that they are appreciative to their “likers” and keeps them from being unliked.
