Google ‘Suggests’ Stereotypes

Why do white people smell like wet dogs when they come out of the rain is the name of a book, one that is selling fairly well on Amazon, hence the suggestion. Though, honestly you’re grasping at straws here trying to make a big issue of a non-issue. Was is a slow day and you couldn’t find anything actually worthwhile to blog about?

The way the suggest feature works is that Google indexes the most popular searches that go through the engine. Google suggests these popular searches because due to their popularity it’s likely to be what you were going to type in.

So, in closing…grow up. Just because you’re jealous of large corporations that make oodles of money is no reason to attempt to slander them with moronic articles that only go to show that you have no idea how the technology you’re being accusatory towards actually works.

Yeah, the point is these are the searches that the majority of the people are looking for which is interesting. I don’t think he was implying that Google was making stereotypical search suggestions based on race.

I have to agree with you guys. Retoru, I didn’t feel as though Monty was doing any slandering at all here – just pointing out something about Google suggest. You’re the one that seems inflammatory in this case by suggesting, in a rather rude manner, that he was doing otherwise.

The truth is, google isnt “suggesting” these things because it has some sort of mind, the results are based on what other people have written on the web, duh. So, really, google is reflecting that many people who use the web have written rascist or stereotypical comments that begin with the phrase you suggest. It is a comment on human nature, though, and a sad one.

I think it’s funny how many people consider what time is negative, what things are racial. I find it interesting that the list mostly play on negative stereotypes, for example, there is no questions such as why do young men and women fall in love, or have gorgeous hair. I find it funny yes, but also sad on many levels…at first I thougth it was fake…

These are not so much stereotypes by Google, but an aggregate of common stereotype searches made by real people. Is just goes to show you how backwards and bigoted we truly are.

Haha I just found another way to kill time! I never saw the enterrtainment potential in google suggest before, now I can see hours of fun! Interestingly, after one of those comment about “Why does obama”, which brings up a lot of suggestions, I put in “Why does Bush” and there is only one suggestion! ANd it is, oddly “why does bush act so macho?” rofl.

Why do asians have eyes

The stats of how many pages for each query would be a lot more accurate if the query used quotation marks. Most of these reults are accidental as all the words are fairly common. For instance I put “why do men like virgins” in quotes and the number of pages dropped from over a million down to 9 !!!

Wow! So much has been said that I can’t truly add anything to this. But I agree with almost all the comments except for the rude ones. Retoru totally needs to take a chill pill. It’s lame when someone ruins someone’s good work by calling it slander, which isn’t even the correct word… Anyway, thank you for posting this to your blog! Interesting and funny at the same time! Many thanks to all the people who commented and left something more here. You people should be proud of yourselves as well. Except for the few negative comments. Those who posted the negatives ones should be absolutely ashamed of themselves!

If you know how this :function” of google worked you would know that it’s based on what everyone else puts in the engine. So, basically, we’re all racist fucktards.

It’s funny realising how many people Google asking why the opposite sex is attracted to certain qualities. Do they not realise everyone is unique ?! I bet these people don’t stop to think why they’re attracted to certain qualities other people possess either. I honestly hope they did not think Google would provide “The Answer!”.

And as for Google bringing up suggestions for the first 4 entries, it’s funny that people think it’s blatant racism. Most of them are questions which we have all thought of at some stage in our life. There is a difference to typing questions into Google and yelling hateful abuse at a stranger in the street.
