By Mohnish On November 4, 2008 2 Comments

Yes, you read it right.. The domain was hacked from their Godaddy account and then transferred to different registrar’s causing the site to be down for more than 24 hours! I’m glad that MakeAUse is back roaring. I had blogged tips about keeping your websites and email accounts safe, I’m posting them again:

15 Tips to keep you safe and your websites safer! 🙂

1) Be careful from hackers – Block/Delete them from your MSN/YIM Lists
2) Cmod all the files as the Read.txt file of your script says..1 exploit found and BOOM! You won’t have your site the next day..
3) Take daily SQL + All files backups to secure your site and prevent a huge loss
4) Scan your PC with Nod32 or Kaspersky AV to prevent Keyloggers and being hacked
5) Change your password every 30 days
6) Use a Random Password
7) If you suspect that your PC has a KeyLogger – Copy Paste the password in the field, Do not type it!
8 ) Scan your PC every 3 days and keep the database updated
9) Use a secured Hoster or if you own a server make sure its secured
10) Remember the secret Question and Answer of your accounts
11) If you own a Forum or a Blog, make a Hidden/Secret Admin
12) Avoid keeping the same password  for all your accounts
13) Do not enter Credit Card/Account details on non “https://” sites
14) Do not download/run untrusted files, images, softwares etc.
15) Password protect Firefox using the Master Password Option(Hacker cannot get your passwords if he sniffs your Firefox with password stealer)
16) and I have added another to the list today: Stay away from GODADDY!!

Now stop reading and scan your PC, change your passwords and start taking back ups! :P
I hope these tips keep you & your websites secure ! :)
