Creating your blog under $100 investment

By Mohnish On June 4, 2009 Under Blogging, Make Money Online

Want to create your blog in an investment of less than $100 a year? Why not? If you calculate, that comes up to an investment of less than 30 cents a day*! It really isn’t that expensive if you see. Only a small investment of $100 a year and the return could be rewarding. You need 3 basic things to get started with your professional blog: Domain, Web Hosting and a Design.

1) Grab a domain name for less than $10!

The 1st thing you need is a domain name to give your blog a professional look. Those long-and-boring blogspot/wordpress.com names really don’t look good. I recommend getting your domains from Name.com

Price: $8.99 a year!

2) Get a cheap web hosting plan

You don’t need much for the start. Just a simple web hosting plan with 100 MB space and 10 GB Bandwidth is enough for your blog to grow. I recommend getting your web hosting package from Limespace.net

Price: $35 a year or $2.95 per month!

3) Get a professional design

Be apart from the crowd. Get a professional WordPress theme for less than $30 (Oh yeah!). This may sound impossible but it is true. A highly professional wordpress theme for less than $30 (one time)! I recommend ThemesForest.Net

Price: $30 (One time)

Alright, let’s add all this up: $8.99 + $35 + $30 = $73.99. About $74. However, also note that the Theme investment is only one time. So that means you can run your blog in a professional way for less than $45 a year ($44 to be precise)!!! You still have $26 left. That’s exactly how much you need to advertise your blog on Sensonize.com for 30 days to get kick started! 😉

Good beginner tips, the fact that you can start a blog without spending hardly any money is amazing. But, I managed to skip out buying a theme, which saved me tons of money, because I would never use a Premium theme. It pays off to know how to do things yourself sometimes. 😉

Just something you might want to know, you linked Name.com to LimeSpace.

Hey Alex! A Premium theme gives you a professional look. However, it is up to you to decide if you would like to go with a free theme for the start and then upgrade to a nice paid one.

    Thanks for the correction. 🙂

I would say you can make money online with zero investment. Nowadays there are also sites which give away free domain. Like http://www.dntemple.com this site give domains for posting in their forums. And there are also lots of free cpanel hosting. But I would also say investing a little will help you better. Awesome post Monty 🙂

Harish – I don’t believe in free stuff. If DNTemple buys you the domain it owns it.

Well, there are contests and things where you can win domain names and other resources to start up blogs. Look at the WebMasterPeers contest that finished the other day… one of the prizes was woothemes, while one of the other prizes was free hosting for a year.

There’s loads of different opportunities to get genuine free stuff 😉

“Prizes” are different from free stuff. You get “prizes” depending on your luck. Free stuff needs to be won. Anyways, congratulations to the winners at WMP! 🙂

My friend used to say me – 100$ is enough to make thousands of dollars online. I never realized it until I got my own website, I got the hosting for free and just paid for the domain name.. ! And now waiting for the thousand dollars 😀

Crickethood – Well yes, you can make thousands of dollars of a website. But making them over night is impossible. Any business, weather online or offline, needs time and hard work. I see your working hard on your website, just give it time. 😉 cheers!

Why do people forget good writers? Start a blog with hiring good writers. See it as a business!!

Annkur – Everyone isn’t as rich as you man. 😛 Paying $200 – $3000 a month isn’t a smart idea for the start unless you are really serious.

Reviewer Kings – You’re right about getting a cheaper domain, but you get free WHOIs and Google apps with Name.com by paying just $2 higher? Private WHOis @ Godaddy is for $5+ I believe and Google Apps for $25/year.

    Cheers! 🙂

Free Wii Points – Do you really need the 1.5 TB? I would suggest you to go for non-unmetered web hosting. It would give you faster loading pages and quality web hosting 🙂

I have been programming wordpress sites for a while now.
If you are competent in programming php, some wordpress theme config (css) etc I believe in this calculation. Otherwise not.
