Twestival Mumbai was awesome!!

By Mohnish On February 12, 2009 11 Comments

We had a complete blast!!! From a 13 year old being our organizer to an extremely talented Hardik being our host, we needed nothing more!! But surprisingly we did have more yet to come; The event was held at the Microsoft Office which was pretty cool!

We entered the MS office and we had Manan(Microsofts biggest fan!) waiting for us there already (This MS freak is before time when its time to visit the MS office.. haha!). We started with some brief introductions. The most amazing thing was Manan’s T-Shirt which had “DOS” printed in the front and “If you can’t change the world, go home” printed behind. Soon joined us Arcopolc and Ankita and we were accompanied by Hardik who had arranged the venue for us(Thanks Hardik!).

The best thing about the Twestival was that no one was staring at each other and we were all enjoying the conversations started by Netra(She is the best topic starter I’ve ever seen!). Then entered 2 beautiful ‘college’ girls, (per Monik) who had a project to take a small interview of the organizer(s). Unfortunately Monik and I had to leave the amazing gossip session for some time and go down for a very small interview. Raul and another dude stepped in one after the other and joined us (Sorry! Don’t remember your name dude.. argh!) We also had Ekalavyab with us who works for an amazing website – Conests2Win.com (Many people must be familiar with this one). Before we started the raffle we had our funny bones tickling and Kunal Sheth entering with Mahafreed.

We continued non stop and there was no one to stop us except that ‘unlucky’ Housie(Raffle) game which was pretty unlucky for many of us out there! haha.. Tweeps were going crazy when they had only one strike off  out of a total # of 30 call outs! (LOL @ Ekalavyab.. But you did win the full house huh? :P) The housie game was amazing and we had alot of fun.. 😛

We collected the donations (I don’t know how much! But anyone could donate any amount.. It wasn’t a fixed amount). We still had 15-20 mins to go to end the Twestival officially, guess what?! Rohan dropped in to say ‘Hi’. Hardik had the laptop out and showed us amazing Microsoft Windows Apps like Microsoft Live Writer, MS Gallery etc.  I loved both of them and downloaded them as soon as I reached home to check them out (Geeky me, LOL)!

It was time to end it now.. Hardik gave us some “Im a Windows 7 PC” stickers for our Laptops/Computers. The stickers were amazing and I’m gonna stick them on my PC soon! =) Before going back home we clicked some snaps outside Windsors gate since clicking pics inside wasn’t allowed. Our star of the day was Monik, our 13 year old orginizer. 😛 The best thing that happened throughout the Twestival was when Monik asked Hardik if Microsoft had any ‘secrets’ – Haha! I was like.. WTF? From DNA to New York Times! (His pic was published in DNA on the 12th of Feb 09 and he wanted it to feature in the 13th Feb 09 NYT Edition by leaking Microsoft’s ‘secret’ 😛 – LOL!)

I would like to end this article by Thanking Hardik, Netra, Monik and all the people who were present there or helped us organize this wonderful event (How can I forget you, Moksh!). I’ll post the pics later if possible – Till then.. Subscribe to my blog and follow me on Twitter 🙂

Think from your heart…

By Mohnish On February 7, 2009 No Comments

The video made by iJustine for Carity:Water touched my heart and made me think about the billion people who don’t have clean water to drink! Today, 1.1 billion people don’t have clean water to drink and live on an average $1/day income.. many less than that! Today, 1 out of 6 people don’t have clean water, 4 out of 6 of us don’t have a proper home to live in. If you have a bed to sleep, a table to dine on and a closet to keep your cloths – You are richer than 75% of this world! If your reading this.. Pray to God that you have more than 75% of this world!! Don’t be arrogant of what you have, be thankful and share it with others with a smile! 🙂

Today, 1.1 billion drink unhygienic water and millions don’t have access to water. Worse: Women living in villages(India) have to walk for miles for few liters of water and carry it back to their villages on their shoulders for their family.

If you donate $20 you will give one person clean and safe drinking for water for 20 years!! Ever cent from your donation is important to someone around the globe. Now – Don’t think from your mind, its time you start thinking from your heart! 🙂

DONATE NOW!

Twestival Fever!! Gonna miss it!

By Mohnish On February 7, 2009 No Comments

The Twestival fever is heating up the globe!! But I’m really dissapointed that we might not have one here, in Mumbai. I don’t know the exact reason but when I contacted the volunteer yesterday to know the location since there was nothing posted on the official Mumbai Twestival Blog he said they were still looking for a location and asked me if I would like to volunteer. I mean – WTF!! 5 days before the Twestival?!?! You can’t expect me to help you find a place, sponsors, arrange stuff etc. I wasn’t really pissed off with the event organizer but I was really pissed off when I heard he is only 13!! How can someone(Twestival Global Organizers) give this job to a just turned teen just because he was the first one to register his city ?!?! But hey! Thats not the matter, Monik is trying hard, without any funds or support. I’ll make a blog post if I have any updates about the Twestival in Mumbai. 🙂

Mumbai, the financially capital of India is already out of the race before it started.. I’m afraid, India is.. because I don’t see many cities in India participating for the Twestival. But hey we can even donate online 😉 If we don’t have the Twestival in Mumbai, nevermind – I’ll donate the sum online 🙂

What is the Twestival?
On 12 February 2009 175+ cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.

Why Water?
Right now, 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. Many communities in developing nations often have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it. This is where charity: water and their partner organizations come in. Drilling a well can cost from $4,000 – $12,000 USD and many living on less than $1 a day cannot afford one in their community, even if the money is combined.

charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. They give 100% of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years.

Enjoy the Twestival and donate as much as you can! 🙂

UPDATE: All those who read my blog or were subscribed to the RSS feeds were updated about the Twestival that we had in Mumbai. All those who weren’t… See you next year! You can see my review on the Twestival Mumbai here
